Medicines for Children and WellChild have developed a prototype app to help parents manage their children’s medications safely.

The Medicines for Children team are pleased to announce that ‘Version 1’ of their new medicines management app is now ready for stress-testing by a select group of parents and families from WellChild.

The intensive testing of the app by WellChild parents is scheduled to last several months to ensure the app functions as expected and suits the families’ needs. Whilst Version 1 of the app is somewhat limited in scope, there are many more features in the pipeline which will be developed once the current key-priority functions have passed the testing process. The app features which the team have focussed on for Version 1 were identified by parents and carers as the most important priorities for them. Following the testing phase, the app will be launched to the wider public, with plans to build greater functionality into the app by the end of 2019.

The Medicines for Children team would like to thank all the medical professionals and parents/carers who gave up their time and shared their experiences to feed into the app development. They would also like to thank Comic Relief, the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and  the ‘Tech for Good’ grant who have enable this much needed digital tool to be developed.
