The Curriculum and Quality Improvement (QI) at RCPCH

One of the competencies of Assessment standard 19 is to understand or use the principles of evaluation, audit, research, development and standard setting in improving quality. QI Central may be a starting point for your development in this area. You should work with your supervisor to determine how you may use QI Central to fulfil this competency.

Other areas of ePortfolio

Quality improvement may form part of your Personal Development Plan (PDP); if you find an area you are interested in developing you can work with your supervisor to come up with a SMART objective for your PDP for the training year. As part of your development log you can reflect on any courses or governance activities that you take part in as part of using QI Central.

Continuing Professional Development

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Quality Improvement (QI)

Quality improvement activities not only benefit healthcare services and patient care but through their development and implementation provide healthcare professionals with opportunities to develop skills, competences and behaviours. As such, learning from implementation of quality improvement activities may be appropriate evidence for your continuing professional development (CPD) records.  You should refer to the CPD scheme of your own professional body to determine how to record learning from QI activities.

CPD for RCPCH Members

Learning from implementation of quality improvement activities may be appropriate evidence for your RCPCH CPD records.  In most cases, learning from implementation of QI activities would fit within the Personal CPD category. Broadly, 1 hour of learning from a QI activity equates to 1 CPD credit. However, credits should be claimed based on personal reflection on learning value and application to practice.
