Coproducing Solutions for Medication Safety with Families
On 5th December 2017, we held an event at the RCPCH with patients and families which focused on improving medication safety.
Turning Ideas Into Products
We heard from fantastic speakers, including parent champions from WellChild and Mother’s Instinct who talked about the challenges families face in ensuring medication safety, both at home and in healthcare settings.
Our keynote speaker, Kath Evans, discussed ways to make partnerships with patients and families in medicines safety ‘always’ events.
We then spent the rest of the day in highly intense group workshops, first discussing common challenges and possible solutions, then picking one idea for a solution and developing it into a pitch to our ‘Dragons’ Den’ judges. The pitches were all excellent in content and delivery – some of them used props and role play to present their problem scenarios.
Our Dragons’ Den selected two winning ideas for us to take forward at RCPCH: a child medication passport and an #AskMe campaign, encouraging parents to speak to their children’s health providers about medications.
We are bringing together a working group of parents, young people and multidisciplinary child health professionals to turn those ideas into products in 2018.
