Maintaining Standards in Prescribing Neonatal Drugs
The prescribing workbook is issued to all new neonatal doctors who commence work in the Trust to encourage good prescribing practice.
Aim
The prescribing workbook aims to inform doctors of the risks when prescribing and encourage good prescribing practice.
Description
Doctors complete the workbook exercises following their induction session. The workbooks are then reviewed and if necessary specific feedback is provided to individuals.
Exercises focus on good prescribing practice and include exercises relevant to local practice and also more generic examples of how to prescribe and monitor gentamicin and vancomycin, prescribing of neonatal IV fluids etc.
This version of the workbook was revised following feedback and as a result of local incidents that had occurred.
The workbook is currently being reviewed, as ePrescribing has now been introduced locally, so the context of some of the questions are no longer relevant.
