The Medicines for Children team, Anna Rossiter (RCPCH) and Rachel Lane (Reason Digital) presented on the topic of co-designing a new medicines safety app with patients and families. A recording of the webinar is available here.

In July 2018 the RCPCH Medicines for Children project was awarded funding and practical support from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Comic Relief’s “Tech for Good” programme. Through this grant, new technology will be used to develop a tool to provide assistance to parents and carers managing complex medicines regimes at home.

Reason Digital, who are developing the app, have undertaken extensive consultation with parents/carers and child health professionals in collaboration with WellChild and MedsIQ.

The in-depth feedback collected will input into the development of the minimum viable product, then subject to further consultation, it is expected that the first version of the app will be ready in March 2019.

In November 2016, mum Shelley and two nurses from the children’s charity WellChild helped to prepare a series of instructional medicines videos for the Medicines for Children website. These videos are designed to be an accurate source of practical information for parents and carers giving medicines at home to their child.
