Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s Improvement Hub (ihub) was established in April 2016 to support those delivering health and social care to redesign and continuously improve services to meet the changing needs of people in Scotland.

The Scottish Patient Safety Programme (SPSP), part of Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s ihub, is a national initiative that aims to improve the safety and reliability of healthcare and reduce harm, whenever care is delivered. From an initial focus on acute hospitals, the Programme now includes safety improvement programmes covering acute adult, primary care, maternity and children, medicines and mental health.

The Maternity and Children Quality Improvement Collaborative (MCQIC) focuses on improving outcomes for babies, children and their mothers. Current work streams include reducing unplanned admissions to paediatric intensive care units, ventilator associated pneumonia and central venous catheter related blood stream infections.

A range of resources including recordings and PDFs of PowerPoint presentations from the MCQIC Paediatric Care WebEx series, template measurement plans and driver diagrams, and information on NHS Scotland’s Paediatric Early Warning Scores are available online here.

Healthcare Improvement Scotland also have a series of open-access video resources available, including tips for online meetings and restarting engagement when considering changes to services since the COVID-19 pandemic. Access the full playlist here and watch one of their recent videos below:
